Taking Eccentricity To New Levels
The Love You Withhold Is The Pain You Carry
I haven't seen the film but I thought it would be interesting to the community.
Schooled is an independent film that portrays a public high school teacher who is at an dead end in his profession. He coincidentally meets another teacher at a Free School and is introduced to another way of learning.
The trailer is on youtube.

is there any possible reason I can't dye a 100% wool hat with RIT dye? the wool is undyed, if that makes a difference.
Feel free to interpret. I think his friend had the answer.
I want to make myself a blanket it will be done with block repeated nine times with different colours. Those colours will be formed like this:
Red Black Green
Yellow Grey Purple
Blue White Orange
So far I have two patterns. One was a star and moon pattern created by using knit an purl stitches.
I've done the first square and I don't like it at all.
The next has a diamond in the middle in seed stitch. Around it is what looks like ribbing (four rows stocking stitch, four rows reverse) with a cable on either side.
I used this pattern for my mother's friend's baby and though I like it, I'm not sure if I want to do it for myself or find something new.
Does anyone here have any blanket patterns that are created with a repeated square?

Ear Tickle:: all i ask of you -- phantom of the opera
I've been writing furiously these last few days, and I'm finally to the last "past" chapter -- the chapter where Hermione leaves. It's slow-going and difficult. It's hard. Harder than I thought it would be.
Chapter seventeen (not the last "past" chapter) should be ready before y'all leave for Portus.
To all of the Portus bound: wishing you safe travels, joyous times, and lots of energy! We non-attenders will anxiously await reports. :-) *group glomp*

machshefa on her birthday! This is a teeny-tiny sequel to What to Expect When Your Husband's Expecting, set right after the birth of baby boy Snape. You don't have to read that before you read this, but it will probably make more sense if you do. Also, I wrote this so that it would also conform with
snape100's challenge of the week, so if you pay attention, you will notice that there's at least one word starting with a different letter of the alphabet, for all 26 letters.
"Xavier?" Hermione made a face. "You can't just name our son that!"
Severus glared, holding his newborn son close to his chest with a decidedly proprietary zeal. "I can and bloody well will," he sniffed, righteously indignant. "When you endure nine months of pregnancy, Polyjuiced labour and the ordeal of squeezing a person through your vagina, then you may claim naming rights. Until then, it's my turn; I've earned it. Xavier agrees," he added, dropping a quick kiss on Xavier's forehead. "She'd name you Hugo," he confided.
Xavier shrieked disapprovingly.
"Fine, you two," Hermione pouted. "But the next one's mine."

Crisis with a Textile nerd!
Posted byWhere am I?: Buffalo, NY
Feeling:
Ear Tickle:: FYR - Le Tigre
Hey everyone, this isn't a direct knitting question, but I was wondering if anybody could help me?
I am a student currently advancing through a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fiber Design and will hopefully be going on to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Fiber Design as well (possible a PhD in Textile Sciences). I knit, crochet, felt, weave, and sew and I feel that I am very creative and well adept to design for industry, privately or for artistic purposes.
Here is my question: what do I do after school? I am having a mild crisis because I do not know what to do with my degrees once I leave the warm embrace of academia. I want to design knit wear in the long run and possibly own my own little yarn shop. But I need experience in the field and dont even know where to look!
I am currently in Buffalo, NY and I fear that my only job opportunities are going to be in New York City (I have no problem with NYC except that I have no money to live there and I am kind of afraid of working there.)
Does anyone have any clues as to where I can start looking? Who I can ask? What I can do to be better equipped for the field?
If you have any questions for me to help narrow down some options please feel free to ask.
Thank you so much for anyone that can help. (this little textile/fiber nerd needs all the help she can get)

Yesterday I did a panel with Richard Price, and then I signed for (according to the newspapers)about six hundred people for five and a half hours. Normally I try very hard to be as nice to the people who've been waiting for hours as I was to the people at the beginning, but I think I may have been ordering the people at the back of the line around a bit just to make sure I finished before the Tom Stoppard talk started at seven. (I finished with 25 minutes to spare.)
The crowd was lovely, and all amazingly good-humoured given how long they were standing around.
Anyway. Five and half hours, which is about five hours and ten minutes longer than anyone else here, which meant that I was being peered at suspiciously, as if revealed as some kind of odd alien being, by other writers with whom only that morning I was sharing jokes and food. I think they have now forgiven me.
After the Stoppard panel, which was marvellous, like a master class, (I'm typing this on the computer in the hotel lobby, and was just tapped on the shoulder by a Newspaper photographer who wanted me to come and pose for some shots, and seemed a bit baffled when I pointed out that I was working) I went to dinner with one of my Brazilian publishers. I hadn't really eaten since breakfast over twelve hours earlier, and discovered that when you are given a very large passionfruit caipirinha after a five and a half hour signing and on an empty stomach, you know it's working because your feet go numb. Possibly they simply went away. Luckily, my feet returned before I had to walk back to the hotel, but it was extremely odd.
Today it's the end of FLIP and the Desert Island Books panel, and I will read a bit from James Thurber's The Thirteen Clocks.

Okay, due to many factors, I have not yet seen the last two Who episodes. I plan watching them both by tomorrow. One of the reasons is that I get excited and didn't want to have to wait between the last two eps so I can watch them back to back. A vast majority of folks will use the cuts, but some are posting icons in the DW comms without putting them under cuts. Fine, I could see if it had been a week or so, but it hasn't even been a day. GAH!!!!
And then I just saw a post titled DW Read at your own risk! Come on. How hard is it to use the cut? It's not hard at all. At least there wasn't a spoiler in the title, but still... It's making it so that I can't hardly look at my LJ yet. I'm pretty sure it's no my flist doing this, but on the comms. But I didn't want the post on screen long enough to tell who it was or where it was.
Especially with this having been a holiday weekend in the US it is likely that quite a few folks have not yet had the opportunity to see it because they had family obligations.

Dear GrangerSnape100-
Week 25 Results, Week 26 Challenge
The Order wins with 390, the DEs 200.
Just a reminder that to get full points SS and HG must be mentioned in each drabble and the dabble must be 100 words.
This week's challenge:
The challenge for this week will be "Homesick" as suggested by
apeacefulsleep . Who is homesick? Homesick for what?
”Homesick" is the tag for this challenge.
Mod Spam- ARCHIVE
Don't forget to archive your work at the GrangerSnape100 archive at the Petulant Poetess. LJ stinks as a fic archive, and putting your work in a real archive will allow non GS100 members to enjoy them. You will also get more and different reviews.
Mod Spam- Conventions
Your Dark Mod is going on hiatus for the next two weekends. I am arranging for Blackaces to care for the count and challenge posts.
Mod Spam- GS100 **Convention Representation in 2008**
GrangerSnape100 will be out in force at Harry Potter conventions Portus in Dallas and Terminus in Chicago. GS100 will be in full party mode as well as representing the good ship Granger-Snape. Two affiliated LJ communities exist, and if you are going, please sign up if you want the latest news on SS-HG events at the cons:
portus_sshg at http://community.livejournal.com/portus_ sshg/profile
terminus_sshg at http://community.livejournal.com/terminu s_sshg/profile
portus_sshg is now arranging a meet up so please get with them if interested.
The Dark Mod can be recognized at the con as a tall, dark haired, death eater. I mean, really, what else would I be?
Mod Spam- ART
We allow art on GS100 now based on the weekly challenges or posts to challenges.
Happy Drabbling,

I'm not worried about not managing to meet up with SS/HG folks. Between the side trip to Desert Designs, the Dark Revel after the Welcoming Feast (should I be worried about trying to sneak in as a Muggle?), the Saturday morning meetup at the Mariott, and the Portus contacts spreadsheet, we actually look kinda organized.
But how'm I going to find some of you other folks? You Snupineers and Snarry-ers and others? If you're going to Portus, want to meet up, and weren't planning to be at any of the things I mentioned above, please comment so we can figure out how to not miss each other.
Also, I need to organize my (so far reasonably short) list of things I'm supposed to be trying to find for folks while I'm there. My former lab partner's 7yo daughter has a massive crush onDanRad Harry, so I'll be looking for something she'd like. Probably a picture or something. My friend M is a massive Cowboys fan, so I'll be attempting to find something that wouldn't just be found in your average sports memorabilia shop for him if at all possible. Patsfan wanted me to go to the Hard Rock and find him a Stevie Ray Vaughan pin. Which would make sense, that a Hard Rock in Texas might actually have one, considering we've not been able to find one anywhere else. Except the nearest Hard Rock is Houston, so he's s*&t out of luck. (If any of you folks do the pin collecting/trading thing, let me know, and I'll run down to the Foxwoods Hard Rock and get some to bring.) I think that's it. Except I'm sure that I'm missing something. *wibbles*

This is to prove what a big geeky girl I am. Like girls can't be interested in the solar system, according to some nitwits.
I am old enough to remember when Voyager I and II were sent off. I also have heard what is on the golden records the article refers to. You can hear some of it in the start of John Carpenter's Starman. The sounds of earth include greetings in several different languages, a speech from the president of the U.N., the sounds of nature, and music. Classical, like Beethoven and Vivaldi. Tribal chants, Indian war songs, exotic sounds from the orient. The Rolling Stones are on that disc singing I Can't Get No Satisfaction. So is Chuck Berry, but I can't remember what it is that he sings.
If an alien race does pick it up I suppose we will find out if they are a fan of Vivaldi or Berry.
